Barrie Photos is my next Pinterest board to be released to the public.
What are Barrie photos? Barrie is a bedroom community of Toronto located in south-central Ontario.
So why did I build a board dedicated to the city of Barrie? It’s my main character’s hometown in my historical fiction novel Angel of Mercy. For this reason, all the photos on the board are dedicated to early 20th century Barrie, a time when the city had less than 7,000 residents.
Barrie was a name that came to me early on in the preplanning stages of the novel when the storyline was nothing more than an idea I was toying with, and my character needed a home. Once I thought of Barrie, the name wouldn’t leave my mind. I resolved, at that point, to make it my character’s place of birth. The feeling was so strong, I would have made it her hometown even if the real Barrie did not exist. Thankfully, though, it does.
Some sample pins.
Royal Victoria Hospital – Hettie Steward’s workplace.
View from the county jail, Freddie Steward’s workplace.
The Steward family’s church – St. Andrews Presbyterian.
Blake Street. The Steward children grew up off of this street.
A special thanks to my friend Linda Schulz for helping to build this board while I was experiencing technical issues with Pinterest.
I’d like to continue to build my Barrie board. If you have any photos of Barrie from the period 1890-1920, please send me the pin or tweet me the link. It would be appreciated.
