How Does the Process Work?

We will first provide you with a detailed quote based on your project needs and expectations.  If you decided to work with us, we will send you a contract listing project details and the agreed upon price.

The next step is to sign the contract and return it to us.

For large projects, we require a deposit before work begins.  The remainder of the fee is to be paid when work is completed.

We accept payments through PayPal.

What if I Don’t Like What You’ve Written or Edited?

If for some reason, you are not satisfied with the quality of our work, please contact us with feedback, so we can rectify the situation.

We are very picky about the projects we accept.  We only take on those where we can provide the highest quality service.

Who Owns Anything You Write?

You own the copyright and are free to use documents, blogs, articles and eBooks in any fashion you see fit to meet your business needs.

Who Could Benefit from Rewriting Services?

Those who could benefit most from this service are professionals who are experts in their fields but not strong writers, and those for whom English is a second language.

What is a Rewrite?

A rewrite is when text is rewritten to remove wordiness and to improve clarity, flow, grammar, spelling and punctuation while maintaining the author’s tone and voice.

Back to Index

Can You Rewrite a Document and Still Maintain the Author’s Voice?

Yes, it is possible.   Rewriting doesn’t change the author’s voice.  It simply polishes the document to make it easier for readers to understand.

Back to Index

What Lead Time Do You Need?

Rewrites are more time consuming and intensive than text written from scratch and often require multiple revisions.  For this reason, I charge more for this service.  Every project is priced differently.  Please allow one business day per 500 words.

Back to Index

Who Could Use Copy Editing Services?

You could benefit from a professional edit if you are an author, a small-business owner or run a business or organization that doesn’t have an in-house writing staff.

Back to Index

What is Copy Editing?

Copy editing is the process of checking text for errors that hamper its readability including grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, flow, excessive words, inconsistency and inaccuracy.

Back to Index

What is Proofreading?

Proofreading is the process of examining a final draft for any errors before the draft is published.  This is not as in-depth as a copy edit.  A proofreader looks for errors that weren’t caught in previous drafts or errors that occurred when a correction was made in a previous draft.

Back to Index

What Format Should I Submit My Document/Manuscript in?

Please submit your document/manuscript in Microsoft Word. I use the Comment function and, upon your request, the Track Changes function.

Who Could Benefit From Manuscript Formatting?

Self-published and independent authors as well as businesses that are publishing eBooks.

What Websites Do You Format Manuscripts For?

I have experience formatting manuscripts for Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble and Kobo, but I will happily format your manuscript for any website so long as you provide me with the style guide.

Back to Index

How Much Time Does it Take to Format a Manuscript?

That depends on the complexity of the manuscript and the bookseller’s style guide.  Smashwords formatting, for example, can take several hours, whereas formatting for Kobo can take less than an hour.  Pricing is on a per-project basis, based on the estimated time required to complete formatting.

What Topics Do You Have Experience Writing About?

Do You Do Grant Writing or Résumé Writing?

What Does Your Fee Include?

Every project is priced individually. My fee includes any required research, writing and copy editing.  Extensive research and interviews would be a separate fee, determined on a per project basis.

Back to Index

Did You Study History in School?

Yes, but I was an English major.  Nearly everything I know about the late 19th and early 20th centuries is self-taught over several decades of study.  That study remains ongoing.

What Kind of Characters Do You Like to Write About?

I like to write about strong women. I really don’t like it when women fall into the age old stereotype of being weak and needy. Of course, even the strongest among us have those moments. Characters need to be multi-layered to be real. If you read my work and come away feeling as if you’ve just met a real person, I’ve done my job correctly.

Back to Index

What Do You Like to Read?

I’ve always loved the classics. My favorite author is Edith Wharton. But lately, I’ve been reading mostly research books.

I enjoy Edith Wharton because she wrote about hypocrisy during Gilded Age New York City. Wharton was born in the 1860s and she grew up in New York high society, so she wrote based on first-hand experience and observation.

How Much of Your Historical Fiction is True and How Much is Fabricated?

I did extensive research before beginning work on Angel of Mercy.  While I did take some creative licences (which I noted in the novel’s end material), I strive for historical accuracy.

Reading reference books is part of my work, but I don’t think of them that way. I geek out on that stuff. I enjoy learning something I never knew before, or learning more about a subject, especially when it relates to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Back to Index

What Do You Do For Fun?

I enjoy listening to music, especially hard rock.  I also do yoga daily.  My other interests are photography, keeping up with current events, armchair astronomy and travel.

Can You Help Me with My Historical Research?

I’d love to; however, I get this request surprisingly often, and I am unable to help everyone who inquires.  Here are some tips to get you started with your research:

— Ask historical societies specific questions

— Consult newspapers; many are online

— Read books on your chosen subject

— Watch documentaries
