World War I Family Saga Centers on War’s Affect on Ordinary People

Will the Stewards Bend Under Pressure or Become Stronger?

Canton, OH (Oct. 5, 2020) – Those Left Behind, the second of a trilogy by Melina Druga, set in World War I, is now available for pre-order. The book goes on sale October 12.

Those Left Behind tells the story of the Steward and Bartlettes families, who are left behind in Canada, after Hettie Steward and Geoffrey Bartlette marry and travel to Europe to help with the war effort.

The first book in the series, Angel of Mercy, debuted in 2019. It is the war-front story, while Those Left Behind centers on the home front. It is a collection of slice-of-life pieces that collectively tell of events in Canada simultaneous to the events in Angel of Mercy.

Druga, who started her career as a newspaper reporter and copy editor, has authored four non-fiction books, and now is focusing on historical fiction. “I’ve loved history since I was nine or ten years old, reading the Little House on the Prairie series with my mother,” she says.

Druga says her research for the series included examining stories of individual lives during the war. She focused in particular on women’s stories.

“My interest is not so much the battles and tactics. Rather, I’m focusing on how these wartime events impacted ordinary people. It was important to me to showcase strong female characters during a time when women were supposed to be filling a certain demure role,” she says.

Both Angel of Mercy and Those Left Behind are available on Amazon.
